The All-New Armada Pro-4X Gets you just about Anywhere in Comfort and Style

When someone says full-size SUV, is the first name that comes to mind Armada? More and more, the answer is probably yes. The Armada first came on the scene as the Pathfinder Armada for the 2004 model year. Since then, the name has been simplified to just Armada. For those looking for a little more adventure, the third-generation 2025 Armada comes in Pro-4X form. Dick Smith Nissan of St. Andrews investigates this new off-road trim. 

The first-ever Armada Pro-4X has off-road enhancements that will get you to your favorite camping spot, trailhead, or fishing hole—letting you feel confident it will get you back even if it rained during your stay. In addition to standard Intelligent 4WD, the Armada Pro-4X includes an electronic locking rear differential, Adaptive Electronic Air Suspension, all-terrain tires, a metal underbody skid plate, and a unique front fascia reshaped for an improved approach angle. The air suspension can raise the vehicle 2.1 inches above the general setting for 9.6 inches of ground clearance. In addition, its off-road geometry includes: 

• Approach angle: 33.0 degrees 
• Break-over angle: 25.5 degrees 
• Departure angle: 24.5 degrees 

That can get you over some tough terrain. Helping you along the way are easy-to-select drive modes including Standard, Eco, Sport, Tow, Snow, Sand, Rock, and Mud/Rut as well as Hill Descent Control (downhill off-road slow speed cruise control). Advanced technology provides further help with the 3D Intelligent Around View Monitor, enabling the driver to rotate the viewing angle to spot obstacles and hazards around the vehicle. This includes the “invisible hood” view that lets the driver view what is directly in front of the Armada that would otherwise be blocked by the hood. If things get too thick or deep, the “lava red” tow hooks are fully functional and easy to spot.  

Recognizing that most Armada duties, including that of the Pro-4X, will be on the pavement, all Armada models feature remarkably comfortable and luxurious interiors. The driver views a sharp 12.3-inch digital display alongside a 12.3-inch center touchscreen. A stylish chrome-trimmed panel with various physical controls for climate and other systems appears to recline against the dashboard. This panel includes four buttons for transmission selection, freeing up space in the center console for easy access to cupholders and storage. Additionally, there is a lower level of console storage as well.   

The 12-way power adjustable front seats are heated, ventilated, and have an available massage function. Behind the front seats are two more three-seat rows enabling a total capacity of eight. Make that seven if you opt for the heated second-row captain’s chairs that mimic the design of the front seats.   

While the old Armada was powered by a fairly large V8, the 2025 model has a smarter, more powerful and more efficient twin-turbo, direct-injected 3.5-liter V6. It is rated at 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, 25 more horsepower and 103 more pound-feet of torque than the previous V8. The engine boasts efficiency-enhancing features such as Idle Stop-Start and friction-reducing mirror bore coatings on the cylinders. The previous transmission is replaced by a new nine-speed automatic, adding two more ratios and 40% more ratio range than the old one. Standard paddle shifters come in handy for controlling engine rpm on mountain roads.
