The 2026 Nissan Leaf Teased

The Nissan Leaf helped start our electric vehicle revolution. It gave Americans a chance to use electricity to power their vehicles. In turn, the first-generation Leaf was practical and comfortable. The second-generation Leaf provided a choice of a longer-range model while staying true to its original mission. Given the success and advancements made by the Ariya SUV, it was time to turn a new Leaf.  

As part of the next wave of new vehicles, Nissan announced that a new 2026 Leaf is coming. Built on the CMF-EV platform that forms the basis of the Ariya, the 2026 Leaf will be reimagined as a crossover that will be made for families. The design will be sleeker and more aerodynamic than the previous generation model.  

A key feature of the 2026 Leaf is the standard inclusion of a NACS charging port. This will enable the Leaf to be charged at more than 100,000 public stations through the NISSAN ENERGY Charge Network.  

Expect an advanced aerodynamic style with a drag coefficient of 0.26, and some first-time features never seen on previous Leaf models. These include 19-inch alloy wheels and a panoramic roof. We should expect more information to be available in the coming weeks.  

The 2026 Leaf is part of the next wave of more than ten vehicles, including more electrification. A new generation of hybrid drivelines is a part of this strategy, including e-POWER and plug-in hybrids.  

These new hybrid drivelines will appear on the next-generation Rogue SUV, to be produced in 2026. An efficient internal combustion engine will join the e-POWER and plug-in hybrid drivelines, giving Rogue customers a choice of power sources. This will also give the next-generation Rogue a lead in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.  

The drive towards further electrification at Nissan continues into 2027 with the introduction of an “adventure-focused SUV.” This will be built at the Nissan assembly plant in Canton, Mississippi, along with batteries supplied by SK On at a U.S. plant. This new vehicle is part of an investment by SK On of $661 million and 1,700 jobs in this country, along with a $500 million further investment into Nissan’s Mississippi plant.  

On a side note, we should see an updated 2026 Pathfinder and a new 2026 Sentra unveiled along with the 2026 Leaf in the coming months.
